the other point to add is that the gross short is not necessarily the net increase on the day.
ie a trader shorting then covering repeatedly through the day will increase that gross figure but may wash out with no change to the aggregate position at end of day.
if anything it just shows trading activity
what we want to see is that 24m number coming down as the data rolls in over the coming days.
