This comes from a LinkedIn conversation on BLY. Nothing important just interesting:
"Brutal year" brings Boart Longyear to it's knees. Again I doubt anyone wants to see BL go, it has given too much to the industry and despite the bad times we all have some fantastic memories of working there, and the friendships we made will last forever.
As for opinions, and bitching, I would be interested in yours if once you have been with the company for 10yrs, 15yrs or more and you get a DCM(Don't Come Monday) from the new HR manager. He has just joined the company from Mattel where he spent the last 15yrs of his life recruiting employees to make Buzz Lightyear dolls, so obviously has an intricate understanding of the way drilling companies work. He believes all Snr Management should hold science degrees as that is the way of the future, and unfortunately you don't have one. Yes, you have 20yrs in the industry and have successfully and profitably run your zone, but the company has a different direction now, sorry. (A bit extreme but you get my point.)
Some pretty senior highly experienced long and loyal serving people in BL have been unceremoniously dumped during this downturn and who knows who is next?
BL did turn over $2bn in 2011, but that is history and you are only as good as your last game. At 24c/share the Superbowl (MCG for us Aussies) is a long way off !
Good luck, I'm sure we all really do hope to see BL there."
