Thanks for the link thermionic, that is the kind of thing I'm after, but I'd like to see a 5 year graph rather than a 1 month one :)

I'm not sure where you get the figure of 85% tax from? The excise is fixed at around 38c per litre, and the GST on a fuel price of say 1.30 / Litre is about 12c per litre giving a total tax of 50c per litre on a 1.30 petrol price or a bit over 38%...

Sure you can work in road tax for freight etc etc but the tax we pay directly is no where near 85% :)

I'll do some digging, I think the price dispartity will be quite alarming, someone has to be pocketing the difference :)
