Overbooking is the norm. Has been forever. But now the paradigm has changed. And consumers are obviously having a gutfull of it. Look, I've done hundreds of flights and it has only happened to me once. Bad luck - but at least I got a crap hotel room out of it...and a flight the next morning. That said, the airlines are selling a service, they are selling seats on their aircraft, and consumers are paying for them. If the airlines think this is all a joke and they can do what they like with reservations and seat assignments.....well I hope the good doctor makes many millions off United's crass cruelty. And then maybe this practise will end.
