Ken Raiss of Chan & Naylor says some clients tell him they do not apply to reduce their (PAYG) tax installments to reflect their expected negative-gearing deductions for fear they will simply spend the money.

However Raiss urges these clients to reduce their PAYG installments as much as possible rather than give the tax commissioner an interest-free loan until their tax refunds are eventually received.
