I wouldn't be surprised if it was Buffet who caused the spike. I bought some WFC myself on the back of his comments, lol. It's a no brainer to me.

Considering that:

a)Throughout his investment career buffett has picked 99 winners for every 1 loser he's had and

b) he made repeated, strong statements about the attractiveness of WFC shares ('I'd buy all of Wells Fargo if the regulators would let me' and 'if I had to buy stock today, Wells Fargo would be the one')

C'mon does anyone really think you wont lose money buying WFC at low 20's when Buffett says things like that about a stock.
