I've also worked in the same line of business in one of the bigger investment banks in equities and deriv's. People try to get as much money for as little work as possible these days - set(up) and forget ETF's are great for that.
A lot of fundies dont really manage that much once they setup the splits though beyond the occasional rebalance (e.g. removing DYL). As long as they clip a 90bp management fee on the FUM who cares how well their investors do.
They always have the scapegoat of fukushima now too ;)
What will be interesting is if they ever rebalance BMN out, or if they ever end up as a major holder.
Either way not having a go, thats just my take on things.
