If you start losing what you thought you have gained would be a good reason to panic.
You start thinking "why didn't I sell".
"Should I sell now even after the price has fallen about $4.00?"
"Wil the price go back up if I sell or is it going lower?"
No, that's trader thinking (and inexperience).
It is quite normal for markets to overshoot both ways however has little relevance to the actual worth of a company / share.
The current run up forming this peak should not suddenly set an expectation that this is the true value of CBA and is really just a blip in time.
Anybody that has been in the market for any time will know that you shouldn't reset everything at all time highs (or lows for that matter) and certainly no need to panic.
TA tends to jump around in the murky depths of trying to pick exact prices but if the company fundamentals are sound then probably one of the best guides is long term trend lines ignoring the peaks and troughs.
Impossible to pick actual highs or lows and CBA for example isn't suddenly worth $142+ ps and anything under is bad and reason to sell or panic!!
It is simply market fluctuations.
Long term holders generally ride out this type of noise and in the case of mature companies such as this, FA is (imo) more important to keep an eye on where they are heading as a company in relation to their peers, the economy and the general market.
Of course CBA commands a high valuation which can change quickly with sentiment and high points are always a good time to sell if you can use the funds wisely elsewhere but panic when it drops back to a more reasonable valuation- hardly!
