I make no judgements of those French who fought on either side. As you say you have to walk a mile in their shoes.

My comment is directed at the hypocrisy of the large number of "resisters" and few collaborators, after the result was known.

An interesting aside is contemplating how we would react in similar circumstances, Chinese troops at our shopping mall? Would we be as brave as the Vietnamese or Afghans fighting modern technology with primitive weapons against heavy odds?
