IMO, these all electric cars make so much more sense in congested cities in peak hour commutes. Fuelling a 300hp petrol powerplant at idle just to run an AC and sound system is incredibly inefficient. In that sort of stop-start, creep-crawl driving you don't need power, just torque - to leap into the gaps ahead of the taxi drivers. At 220 Nm (Renault), the electric car has plenty - and as the torque curve is flat, from rest it has more than most big sixes.

So far, hybrids have been a little less than convincing, IMO. But if I had to do that sort of daily commute I would seriously consider buying an all electric vehicle, with exchangeable battery, just for the efficiency, regardless of any environmental benefits.
