This graphic from ICAO (United nations specialised agency) shows air travel data from 1950 to 2012. Suffice to say it has continued on trend until 2020. Notice the effect of many major events on air travel. Needless to say we will be putting another dent in the data right now, but I'd be surprised if the trend doesn't continue on its merry way when allowed to.
BTW Flight Centre was a company during all but two of these crises, and its founder (who is still the CEO) was operating as a travel business owner for all of the crises. He knows a bit about risks in the travel industry and how to negotiate them.
