There would not have been too many, if any disasters in Australia where any insurer was exposed to more than $300 million in a single hit.
Perhaps, they thought they were being prudent by not insuring for what has never happened before and saving on the premium.
Even reinsurance companies have their limits in place, hence the need for maximum pay outs.
