For those who are less gun-ho on the matter I recommend Dan Carlin's take on the issue of nuclear weapons and in particular the last Korean war discussion that encompasses this theme.

Keep in mind the podcast was done several months ago before the current scenario we are facing.
It looks like history could repeat itself with the nativity of some commentators its just like the 1940-50's again. Yeah sure the Norks will just sit by and be obliterated by "shock and awe". They know full well what they are facing regardless of the quality of its leader/dictator and struggling population in our efforts to bring "democracy". The mental scarring of their cities and civilian populations decimated by indiscriminate bombing by the US, and flattening of their infrastructure after the end of the last ceasefire is ingrained in the national identity/psych. They can see that helpful US coalition defeating ISIS using "humane" indiscriminate phosphorus bombing in Syria and will just be happy to accept us with open arms and flowers once we get rid of the tubby with the bad haircut. You beat the US is trustworthy it only wants to remove a bad dictator, just ask the Chinese and Russian about encirclement.
Yeah I am sure those Iraqi and Libyans are loving the democracy we brought. Just ignore the bodies, Islamists and chaos, when you can have Macca's and all those US companies willing to exploit ... sorry 'invest' in their rare earth and other resources.
Also you Venezuelans don't know what your missing when you can have western democracy like the Ukraine where only the rich oligarchs and fascist parties are legal. Your a threat to US national security and US democracy.
