    Indeed. In all indigenous cultures the way to experience God, or what may be called a spiritual experience is to turn off, to meditate or imbibe some substance that shuts the brain down. It is experiential.

    It is interesting that for most Western and Middle Eastern religions the pursuit of such an experience is attempted by arguing over scriptural meaning and demonstrations of false piety. It is a purely cognitive pursuit.

    Letting go has to be the path because no human is capable of conjuring up God in their mind, or via a thought.

    A Baha'i prayer - Oh, God, make me a hollow reed, from which the pith of self hath been blown so that I may become as a clear channel through which Thy Love may flow to others.
