    Yes, the numbers are getting too big with Omicron - thank God Delta was not as transmissable, then we'd be in really serious strife.

    It's been so lucky Omicron is less severe, with far fewer hospitalisations and fatalities.

    Cancelling elective surgery makes sense, since we seem to be moving towards half a million new infections each week.

    Some percentage will get really crook, and there are plenty of oldies, fatties, diabetics, unvaccinated, immuno-compromised, etc who are more susceptible to suffer severe symptoms when infected.

    It will be quite dangerous to suffer a serious accident, heart- attack, stroke, etc over the next month or two.

    Presumably, hospitals have plans to hold some emergency capacity aside, in spite of the possibility of an overwhelming number of people presenting principally for Covid reasons.

    However, hard to imagine exactly how that can be done, since some covid presentations will require emergency treatment.
