re:smooth shorts down to rio ... cloudstreet Hi Cloudstreet ... for those who mostly write ETO's it is worth exploring Avcol Broking (www.avcol.com.au) which formerly was Rivkin Broking.
Avcol brokerage rates/margins etc are the cheapest and the service is apparently excellent (We are happy with Commsec).
I have heard such as ... "if your naked sold pozzie is ITM, Avcol will ring you and urge to close to cover" ... not a guarantee or indeed a service that if offered but has been known to occur and helpful to some who may have been exposed say with open sold ITM pozzies cum-dividend.
