some photos showing how the locals live.
Some of the morning catch....catfish....tilapia..bream
Local fisherman & nets
Allivual pit...now a washing place for local clothes. Drying is done lying clothes upon grass.
Assays storage at Douta site.
Some local livestock with Douta camp compound.
Local houses of the native people. They rely on BSR for fresh water & security.
They are completely self sufficient no transport or shops for 100 kms.
They do have a more substantial school & community centre that has been built by BASSARI.
Absolutely no mechanical machinery , all farming is by hand implements.
Crops ...cotton...corn...sweet potatoes, pumpkins ,melons. All for their own use.
Every thing is barter system.
With Bassari's help going forward providing irrigation & ample water to assist year around water, conditions for the locals should be greatly improved.
I would say with GREAT confidence that all the readers of this post would not comprehend how remote this area is & also the primitive existence of the local people.
They are I believe living in hope for this development & the jobs it will create for their people.
Hope you enjoy this little insight.![]()
