    futures are not a predictor of the market?
    their purpose is to allow a degree of certainty over a future price, at least it was. ie you can hedge.
    Many simply use it as a trading vehicle these days but to use it as an indicator of the movement in the later market is simply as you say...inaccurate. They simply are what they are at the price they are.
    Many people do read it as a leading indicator for the direction of the market but in reality it can at best tell you if a market should open higher or lower and thats about it imo and that can only be accurate soon before market open.
    If futures are green just before a market opens then the likelyhood is the market will go up unless 'news' causes a change in sentiment.
