Unfortunately service industries depend on export industries making some money, there lies the problem in the US. It is no use the retail sector rushing ahead when the money printing presses have had the brakes applied; the only way more money can appear is by increasing exports, airplanes, arms, technology etc. The US has big competition now in fields that it had a monopoly before so times will stay tough.
