I think what we are looking at with the DOW's last hour was completely expected due to the trading day being a friday. After a big selloff on thursday in the US, friday was always going to be turbulent with a late selloff - much like the aussy markets.
Those who do not wish to hold long positions over the weekend would sell off after a daily rally. The uncertainty spells fear, and this in turn leads to the safety of cash.
Key support in the US was broken on friday, showing possible further downside, however no-one really knows, as things are rapidly declining, and shooting into the oversold categories. From a chartin perspective, I would wait for the first positive day, and then to load up on positions depending on the closing nature of the index.
