I think there is a lot for you to have considered before you invested in Downer if you are concerned about a capital loss.
Downer has historically traded between $3 and $8 consistently and pays a roughly 3% dividend, the growth story here is not great, however the consistency is comforting if you buy in the lower range of $3-4.
Now lets factor in current conditions, Australia has just gone through La Nina weather, material supply is difficult at the moment with long lead times on items, labour shortages for skilled workers (such as construction) are tight, and even tighter with unvaxxed population unable to work. These all restrict the construction industry from delivering works and also restricts governments from spending as they won't spend without works done/materials in hand. All these delays are significant across the nation and it is probably widely expected that the construction industries results will pull back across the board as a result.
