its nights like tonight that put me off holding shorts overnight.. you can see the short burners firing off on spx futs well ahead of moves in the cash index.. again and again we've seen these rallies based mostly on short burners and lack of sellers.. tonight for instance all that has happened is that the decline in sellers has been faster than the decline in buyers.. both are down.. ideal conditions for a futs led short burner which relies on arbitrage or programme trading to succeed.. the effectiveness of this tactic probably explains why the nyse has taken away the limitations on program trading when theres a fast decline in the cash index.. cos under the present fed leadership, its exactly the program trading arbitrage combined with futs led short burners that allows them to prop up the cash market .. and the days of big declines is when they need that prop the most..
