It is very tough in today's market to buy and hold for the most superior returns, you have to be very canny and look at the bigger picture and remember that 2/3rds of all ASX companies do not make a profit and most of those will never make a profit. It is up to you to be aware and keep a sharp eye out on your investments. 2008-2009 taught me that the hard way, I've never fully recovered from that time (nice capital loss carryforwards I have I hope one day to claim them!
