    of course it makes sense,

    They borrow the shares at a higher price, then sell them using algorithmic trading.

    On the way down slower pick of the soft hands until they get all their shares back at a lower price.

    Then return the shares to the borrower, let the price move higher and pocket the profits.

    Obviously no clever institutions watching at the moment.
