Well short selling is wagering that the stock price is going to go down over a time period. You buy stock at a set price, sell it and hope that the stocks go down so you can purchase those shares at a lower price to replace them.
Buying one share, 5 shares, 10 shares at lower or higher prices, is clearly manipulating the market by placing small orders or cross trading to drive the stock higher or lower in hopes of creating a selling panic or buying frenzy.
