Closed their shorts???? Don't think so. When the biggest industry in by far the largest economy in the world begins to talk about collapsing without a govt bailout, well that affects everything...then add to that the pain in the financial and housing industries. Less economic activity obviously means less oil consumed and less resources required...and it affects everyone and everything in the civilised world. Aout the only peoples that aren't affected are the lost tribes in the Amazon.
How will a govt that owes trillions be able to afford handing out another $50B in low cost loans to Ford, GM and Chrysler without getting the printing press working in overdrive....and yet the USD has powering along of late, and at the same time gold and gold stocks are getting murdered.
Go figure....
