China is now the world’s largest phosphate rockproducer, producing almost 70% of the world’s phosphate (though Morocco has the world’s largestreserve).
All rock phosphates have some degree of radioactivityand some are as high as that of Lynas’s WLP.
For instance the radioactivity of the ROCK PHOSPHATEFERTILIZER from the GUIZHOU area of China contains 3.032 Bq/g of Uranium-238……..3.120 Bq/g of Radium-226…. 0.043Bq/g of Thorium-232 and 0.057 Bq/g ofPotassium….
giving a total activity of 6.25 Bq/g of the Rock Phosphate which ispractically the same as that of Lynas WLP.
Over the years, Malaysia has imported millions oftonnes of radioactive phosphate and radioactive potassium fertilizers(potassium has a specific activity of 32Bq/g) for its oil palm plantations.
In2013, Malaysia imported 780 million tonnes of radioactive Phosphates and almost2 million tonnes of radioactive potassium fertilizers
