They aren't dumb politicians. If they were this would've been concluded in Lynas favour a few years ago. All fingers point to China. Perfect situation for the Chinese. Australian company with substantial Japanese government backing for production of critical minerals in a country that when scratched deep enough isn't as harmonious the VisitMalaysia ads would have you believe.
If this was a wholly owned Chinese state company I guarantee you the radioactivity of bananas would be the bigger issue.
