G'day hwlooi. I visited Malacca 5 years ago for the incredible history - Malacca straits fascinating - wars between Dutch - Spanish - English over this strategic stretch of water critical for control over China - India spice trade routes.
Seemed to me the locals are pre occupied building McDonalds - KFC - Shopping malls (right in the old city) to line their pockets to have any time to worry about much else. They'll be back happy grabbing money off the tourists soon.
