Ahhh yes, an answer to my prayers. Someone comes up with a recent government status report on geothermals in South Oz. Well done Dr Woood. Something to work with, something to sit back with, digest and consider. The SA government and it's PIRSA section really is the best at telling people what is going on. have a look at their pdf ( 11MB) on the SA geothermal sector. It has heaps of info and goes a long way to offer information which I was after at the start of the "geothermal comparisons" thread.

De Woood also raises an interesting question about the difficulty of drilling through hot granites as opposed to drilling through cooler sediments ( if I read him right).
Don't know the answer but will try and check it out. The last prospectus by geodynamics had a section in it which went in to some historical detail about the mechanics of the drilling /pressures/ problems encountered etcetera and I thought it amounted to a semi template of how to drill deep holes through granites. It read to me as a technical lesson of a host of things that can go wrong when trying to drill deep hot holes. I suggest Dr Wood that you download the geodynamics prospectus to sift through the technical data supplied therein.
    thank you
    omg
