The short answer to your question is yes.....when someone quotes a dividend it is per share per year
Dividends can change each year depending on company profitability and also the company's objectives
The amount of $2 in your example and question is not a realistic expectation of the likely dividend from AVZ
When companies commence paying dividends they are more likely to be only a cent or a few cents at best per share
Also it is not likely that AVZ will start paying a dividend any time soon as it will need to commence operations and repay significant debt first
Additionally AVZ will most likely retain cash (rather than distribute it to shareholders) in order to bankroll other opportunities and move towards the goal of becoming a global mining giant.....all IMHO of course

As a starting point it might be worth your while researching dividends in Australia, who pays them, who the recipients are, how they work, what can influence them and their inherent tax implications
And don't forget the accuracy, correctness or factual nature of all HC contributions (including mine) should never be taken with any great degree confidence
