That's been the goal of every tin pot dictator and the militant groups roaming DRC since the Belgians were kicked out. Whoever controls the mineral wealth can control the military. Looks like the Chinese want to build a trans-continental railway so they can transport the ore closer to their military base on the Somali coast - will be interesting to see how they plan to secure a 5000 km railway line across 9-10 countries....
Anyway the long and the short of it is there is a lot of political pressure on BMW, BASF, VW etc to source battery minerals outside DRC so anyone that can put together economic long LOM projects in Australia, Canada, Europe, South America, USA will all be in the running for lucrative long term contracts from European, Japanese, American and South Korean battery manufacturers along with Chinese manufacturers however DRC will probably end up solely the domain of China even though there are currently still a number of large Anglo-American companies operating.
