That's not how the vast vast vast majority of algos are used though... they are mainly used for simple repetitive tasks such as to distribute large orders for institutions (rather than paying an expensive highly trained trader to engage in such a repetitive and mundane task). Instos can't simply press buy or sell and get their fill, they need to cut their orders up into hundreds and even thousands of smaller orders. Algos make a lot of sense for that. They don't pay variable fees but they pay a massive fixed fee which you are more than welcome to pay as well (but I doubt you'd want to)
