Love QHL and the F35.
Your reasoning is sound, except for relating fiscal sense to Congress. Nothing wrong with the F35 except the money part. Every cent the US pays for it has to be borrowed from the Chinese. If and probably when the dollar tanks, things will get exciting. The US can only do what it can do. Even with a decent economy there hasn't been a modern aircraft program buy that hasn't been severely cut. IE: B2 - 132 to just 21.
Lets hope all goes well and history is wrong.
