Hammer bits are very much like the pneumatic drills you see working on building sites and roadworks. They have valves and jets etc and its not uncommon for these to become blocked and need replacing. Its more a mechanical failure of the bit itself and may have nothing to do with down hole conditions. Unfortunately its necessary to pull the bit to replace the jets.....it does mean though that the Pioneer is very tough digging hence the need for the hammer bit
