The Golden Mile and indeed most Archaean greenstone hosted gold deposits are mesothermal, not epithermal as has been suggested here.
Any comparison to the VRX supposedly "epithermal" gold mineralisation to the Golden Mile is therefore off the mark.
Epithermal gold mineralisation forms at shallow levels in the crust generally less than 5km depth and often has a genetic relationship to granitoid intrusive rocks and volcanic rocks.
Mesothermal or "orogenic" mineralisation forms at mid crustal levels generally 5 to 15km depths and mostly is not genetically related to the host rocks.
