Not exactly clear what you're alluding to? When I first started trading, one of the first shares I bought was HIH!! Well recommended by the best brokers. And just like most companies, don't report news till the last minute, good or bad, so I'm cynical about most information when it comes to reporting.

So there's a fair amount of risk with whatever you buy. Sure, some companies are fairly honest and some aren't when it comes to reporting. And ASIC appear to be impotent in a lot of cases. But you make the decision and you place your bet. SOC is a Risk for sure, and the possible upside is the carrot. That’s what makes a market. The only reliable fundamentals are that SOC is not BHP.
It's also up to you what you decide is information and what is spin. especially on these forums (:-)
