Legend Mining to commence much anticipated drilling program in Cameroon
Thursday, December 02, 2010 by Proactive Investors

Legend Mining (ASX: LEG) has re-started the diamond drilling program in the Eseka region at the Ngovayang Project in Cameroon, West Africa, which was suspended in September 2010 due to heavy seasonal monsoon rains.

If previous first pass sampling work is anything to go by, Legend's diamond drill program is likely to bear close watching.

Two bulldozers commenced work on 29 November preparing drill pads and rig access tracks in the Eseka region at the Ngovayang Project.

Diamond drilling will start mid January 2011. The initial 5,000m programme will continue as planned, targeting seven prospects in the northern part of the project.

Previous first pass sampling work by Legend over a 2 kilometre horizon returned nine rock chip samples of +65% (Fe) magnetite, indicating the Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) potential of the Eseka region.

Legend has a massive "footprint" within the Ngovayang Project of some 115 strike kilometres of itabirite identified in 24 separate zones. Itabirite zones are often considered possible precursers for higher grade DSO mineralisation.

The strategy is to develop a pipeline of targets and turn these into itabirite and DSO resources.

Current primary drilling target is the discovery of 50 million tonnes of DSO and in addition itabirite ore (lower grade but potential very high tonnage) will also be targeted.

Legend actually kicked off the program on 4 August 2010 but had to be suspended in September due to heavy rains hampering access.

Extensive regional reconnaissance is currently being undertaken by the eight man geological team over strong aeromagnetic features in the southern part of the Ngovayang Project area.

This work is aimed at identifying surficial evidence of iron deposits associated with coincident magnetic and topographic highs. First pass reconnaissance work is expected to be completed by Christmas, with any prospective areas identified during this work fast tracked to the drill testing stage.

The southern project area has the added advantage of being well served by access infrastructure including rail and road networks to and from the port city of Douala.

Reconnaissance work over the southern aeromagnetic features is continuing by the eight man geological team, aimed at identifying surficial evidence of iron deposits associated with coincident magnetic and topographic highs.

First pass reconnaissance work is expected to be completed by Christmas, with any prospective areas identified during this work fast tracked to the drill testing stage.

Limited reconnaissance has been undertaken previously given the terrain is challenging.
