Notification - Exploration Drilling Published on Wednesday, 22 June 2022 at 12:00:00
Chalice Mining Ltd. wishes to advise that exploration drilling will recommence in the Julimar State Forest from 22 June 2022.This is a continuation of the initial drilling notified in January 2022, and follows the receipt of final government access approvals. The full program consists of approximately 70 drill sites across a 2000-hectare area at the southern end of the forest (please refer to the map below for location information), which is expected to take place over the coming months.
Chalice’s drilling will not involve any mechanised clearing of vegetation, and strict environmental management measures will be used to minimise impact to the environment including the use of low-impact, small footprint diamond rigs and comprehensive flora, fauna and cultural heritage monitoring.
Disturbance will be at a minimum. Chalice’s activity in the Julimar State Forest is strictly governed by a Conservation Management Plan (CMP), developed in consultation with the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) and approved by the Minister for Environment. Chalice also has an approved Programme of Works (PoW) and Native Vegetation Clearing Permit (NVCP) from the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS).
Chalice is required to apply for a Native Vegetation Clearing Permit for off-track drilling, as disturbance to vegetation, including driving a vehicle over vegetation, is classified as ‘clearing’ under the WA Environmental Protection Act 1986. The Permit does not allow Chalice to clear any trees.
Along with the CMP and PoW, Chalice has several key compliance requirements including a Traffic Management Plan; strict environmental regulations including a Dieback Management Plan; Flora and Fauna Management Plan; Cultural Heritage Management Plan (consulting both Yued and Whadjuk groups) and bushfire and emergency procedures. Major access roads will still be accessible to residents, and comprehensive warning signs will alert any interruptions to minor road access within the Julimar State Forest.
