Thanks Goldmania.
Yes the gold junior sector looks very thin for quality scalable operations. The Silver Lake Resources takeover of Integra was/is a disaster, and predictably so. Bits and pieces all of over the place.
Kinross showed how not to do things in the redback takeover, would have put a few of the big boys off. An $x billion write down, and out goes the CEO.
Independence Group have got no gold projects outside of Karlawinda and Tropicana, and they like the Gold....where is the pipe line in gold projects??
Newmont, Barrick, Goldfields...wheres the growth pipeline boys? Are you replacing what is mined this year, next etc
Also a problem that some of the Geos in the big companies make a career out of kicking tyres and doing nothing much else (going to Indaba, other conferences etc)..its a safe game for a while, until the MD asks about whats in the pipeline and we want it now, the shareholder is on the phone.
But they do not have too many options if they want to populate the pipeline. And if they do not do this, then the their SP will dive.
So the Big Boys eventually put themselves into a corner if they are not careful, considered and strategic..end up in a bidding war....you would think they would lean, and be the first guys to see scale, operability...but no, they sit and wait...until its too late.
Very strong turn out by WestPac at the Explorers Conference. Short message...there is money for good projects...as always. The longer message ... Other banks are on the lookout as well. Competition is good...And as above...few good projects in their collective pipelines in the gold business. The banks also like gold projects for obv reasons.
We live in interesting times.
