Bowmore is good stuff
Masterofmalt gives nice reviews of whiskey, fairly reliable but not definitive as to what you may like, nothing ventured nothing gained.
A few of my favourites in the single malt world, all straight no ice ;
- Lagavulin 16. Varies wildly in price from 80 to 120 dollars. Nice islay for under a hundred bucks
- kilchoman machir bay - lighter than the former , still lightly peated , can seriously drink this all day which is what I did with some rellies saturday.
-Ardbeg has some interesting releases, some gimmicky. Often heavily peated. uigheadal is a nice offering
- Clynelish- gentle tang, no peat - easy drinker from highlands
- oban 14- smooth, almost too much so, not peaty, drink when relaxed as its subtly complex
