The penalty for possession of an illegal firearm in NSW is 14 years apparently, but you'd be lucky to get that for murder these days. Knives, well people get away with cautions and $500 fines. ( 15 and 16 year olds have no means to pay)
Police should have the power to wave metal detectors over likely lads when ever they see fit, RBT's would be a good spot.
