A man has appeared in court charged over an accident that killed six teenagers near Mildura in north-west Victoria.

Thomas Graham Towle, 34, of Red Cliffs, held his head in his hands for most of this morning's 10 minute appearance at Mildura Magistrate's Court.

He faces 13 charges including culpable driving, negligently causing serious injury and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Counsel for Towle made no application for bail and he was remanded to appear for a committal mention on June 26.

Four girls and two boys, aged between 15 and 17, died when a car left the road at Cardross on Saturday night and struck a group of teenagers waiting for taxis.

Four other people remain in hospital.
