    US To Provide Consultancy Services To India To Build UAVs Under USD 3.1 Billion Predator Drone Deal: Report (msn.com)

    New Delhi: The US offered to provide consultancy to Indian entities for developing an indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a part of the USD 3.1 billion 31 MQ-9B Predator drone deal between the two countries.

    In the last few years, India and the United States have been holding discussions for the drone deal. Under the deal, three services will get 31 drones. The Navy will be getting 15 birds and the Army and Air Force will be getting 8 each, ANI reported.

    The American offer is expected to be taken up for discussion and clearance at the Defence Acquisition Council meeting, which is scheduled to be held on Monday, defence sources told ANI. The meeting would be the first meeting of the DAC under the Narendra Modi 3.0 government, the report said.

    According to sources, the consultancy is expected to cut down, by a significant margin, the time taken to develop a highly advanced drone, the report said.


    The MQ-9B drones will be deployed at four places, including INS Rajaji near Chennai and Porbandar in Gujarat, by the Indian Navy. The two other services will jointly keep them at two air force bases in Sarsawa and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh due to long runway requirements. This will help in boosting military surveillance capabilities along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh.
