Well it's been 10 + years since my tour and as we predicted, as soon as allied forces left, the vacume would allow for the Taliban to sweep straight back through. I hope we made a difference whilst there, I really do.
Each time in history a force has invaded Afghanistan and then withdrawn, the Taliban have returned stronger and more emboldened and with new technology.
Small drones will be their new technological weapon of choice.
Covid put a pin in #errosit activities due to boarder restrictions and generally ease of tracking people going where they should not go, rather convinient to not let a crisis go to waste.
With luck the deals made by the US with the Taliban to give them back control of their land will stand the test of time. How much resentment and desire to re-engage with western forces outside of Afghanistan again is yet to be seen. Lilkey a year or two of consolidating their Tribes and civil wars befor their attention once again turns to infidels.
They know they cannot be beaten now by the strongest military in the world. What that does to a peoples mindset should not be underestimated.
