Also worth adding that the shorter today entered a "small short position", key word small. My guess is that they saw a perfect opportunity to create a panic and short the stock while it was at an all-time high and make a quick gain, right before the next quarterly result is out. They succeeded.
Why not increase the short position? Perhaps they are being cautious about the next quarterly result being positive, hence why they only entered a small, short position, rather than a larger one.
Without retail backing this horse, this could've easily fallen to $1.50 today. However, retail holders came to the party (perhaps an anticipation the shorter made as well, and why they went small).
Purely speculation and just reading between the lines.
