A good post from you but I thought I would throw something in just for the sake of having a say whilst I sit in my Jakarta hotel room with nothing better to do.

Last year there were more cigarettes sold in the world then the previous year and the previous year .... It is a very easy mistake to make to think that what is popular thinking in Australia is also popular thinking in the rest of the world.

Same applies to coal. The idea of taxing carbon is right now just a theory. I guarantee that when push comes to shove many parts of the world will not join in the game. There is a long way to go before the death of coal.

At the end of the 19th century we had Opium wars, sometime in the 21st century I would not be surprised if we had carbon wars!

I hold PDN, I know where you are coming from and see your argument as a reality in the first world but I reckon I might have died from poor air quality long before coal fire powered stations and tobacco go the way of the dinosaur.
