The dividend will be paid into your account on 18 October. There's a set ex-dividend date, and stock purchased after it don't carry dividend rights, but usually the price of the share drops immediately to take that into account. There are also times when an ex-div event can trigger a much longer and deeper market slide. It can be risky to trade stocks simply to get the dividends if you're intending to sell soon afterwards.
I'm not sure when the ex-div date for ASL is; the record date (the day when you need to be on the share register) is 4 October, and the ex-div date is usually a few days before that, but Commsec hasn't updated the ASL dividend timetable yet. My guess is that it will be the closest trading day to 28 September.
