It’s a flaw in reasoning that’s rife throughout the denialist community. Another current example: Simplistic and trite. In reality, every event has multiple contributing factors - one of which is most certainly the steadily increasing average temperature of the globe. That’s what sets the baseline that oscillations like the IOD wiggle around.

No... I said that the oscillation of the IOD into a hot dry phase combines with the higher baseline temperatures due to CO2-induced global warming to produce conditions that are even hotter (and therefore drier) than they would otherwise be. I did not say anything like what you’re attempting to put into my mouth.
