At least five top-performing McGrath real estate agents have been lured by the prospect of six and seven-figure sign-on bonuses and shares to join The Agency, a Perth real estate group with a national mandate to expand its mortgage broking business.

Just days from securing an ASX listing via a reverse takeover Ausnet Financial Services, which is backing The Agency, the ambitious property play has secured ex-McGrath agents including Ben Collier, a specialist in Sydney’s wealthy eastern suburbs, project marketing executive Steven Chen and his brother in law, agent Brad Gillespie.

Sydney inner-west former McGrath agent Shad Hassen and former McGrath sales boss Matt Lahood have also been approached to join The Agency with an announcement expected within days.

The move highlights the reshaping of the nation’s real estate agency market, with agency McGrath struggling to win over investors since listing on the Australian Securities Exchange. Its shares are trading at half the listing price.
